Wedding Food On A Budget: Four Things To Consider
When you are working on budget, how would you save money on the wedding food and still let your guests have a good time. Here are four areas that you can tackle:
The Service
Depending on the time of your wedding, the options for food services can differ and so thus the costs. For an early-morning wedding, you can consider having a brunch or lunch. For a mid-afternoon wedding, a snack bar can be a good choice. In both cases, the costs are going to be much lower than serving your guests dinner.
In case you decided to have a dinner reception, think about having a buffet instead of the four-course nice sit-down dinner. Even avoiding your wedding on a Saturday can help you better stay on your budget.
The Caterer
When you meet with a caterer, you don’t need to tell them right away that you are planning a wedding event. Because if you do that, they will most likely show you the “bridal pricing” and, guess what, that is going to be much more expensive. Always negotiate. There is always possibility to cut the price further down.
Also, consider hiring a local restaurant to cater your wedding instead of wedding caterers. Many of them will be happy to do so. They usually provide more stuff with a smaller price tag.
If you are really tight on budget, the best way to save money is to have family members help catering the wedding food. You can easily find menus and recipes from the internet.
The Menu
Try to go with more “budget-friendly” menu items. For example, chicken is much more affordable as compare to sea food and beef. Anything out of season will definitely costs more. Also, keep things simple. A six-course dinner will be more expensive than a four-course dinner because it requires more materials and longer time to make it. When it comes to making your wedding menu, keep these in mind so you won’t go over budget.
If you are catering your own wedding, you can further cut the cost by buying all the materials from wholesale stores like Costco and Sam’s Club.
The Drinks
First of all, you don’t have to serve alcohol at your wedding reception. But if you do opt for that, think of going with beer or cheaper wine brand and buy them in bulk at wholesale.
Are you thinking about having a bar? Eliminate the bartender. It is an easy way to save money, just have a friend to serve drinks for you. Another way to cut the cost is to have a cash bar instead of an open bar. If your guests are having a good time, I don’t think they will mind picking up their own tabs.
