Creative Ideas For Cutting the Costs of Your Wedding Cake
It can be overwhelming when you see all of the selections of wedding cakes that are available. It becomes difficult to try and stay within your price range because there are many amazing and elaborate cakes to be chosen.
Just because you're planning on seeking out some cheap wedding cakes doesn't mean that it is not going to be stunning.
Does It Have To Be For A Wedding?
Cakes that are not specially designed for weddings are beautiful too. You can visit a couple of your local bakeries, if you find a cake you like, just ask them to make a bigger version or buy multiples. And because it is not a wedding cake, you can end up saving some amount.
Or if you already have a design in your mind, don’t mention it’s for a wedding when you go talk with your baker. Anything for wedding cost more, by simply not mentioning that world you can pay less.
Go With A Simple Design
You can cut your costs down by having a simpler design. Adding some personal touches, you can still make your cake unique and elegant. One of my friends gave me a very good idea. She had a simple white two-tier cake for her wedding, decorating with fresh flowers (which are cheaper than the sugar flowers). On top, she personalized it with a picture of her and the groom in a heart-shape picture frame (which she got on sale). It’s clever and unique. Don’t you think?
Another way to get creative is the shape of the cake. A tier cake is usually cost more than a square one. That’s because the process of making that is more complex. If you don’t like square, you can buy a few round cakes and display them nicely, that can still cost less than the tier cake. So if it serves the same number of guests, why not go with the cheaper option?
One of the items that makes wedding cakes very expensive is if the baker has to hand made the flowers from the icing. You can get past this and make your wedding cake quite exquisite by just simply using real flowers as opposed to the fake ones.
Size Does Matter
The bigger the cake, the higher the cost. Your baker will be able to tell you how many pieces one particular cake will provide for. In generally, you will order a cake based on the number of guests that are going to attend your reception. But keep in mind, not everyone will want a piece of cake, so you can get away with ordering a wedding cake that serves less.
Eliminate The Accessories
The cake toppers and the cake stands can cost you too. Simply go with less fancy ones or even go without them can bring your cost down.
Have A Display
One other way that you can cut your costs is to have a cake just for display and then prepare a sheet cake for serving. For the display cake, you can choose either to have a mini version of a cake or rent one from the same bakery you order the sheet cake. Either way, it will cost you less.
Buy It At Costco
Or any super markets that sell cakes. And you know, they definitely much less expensive. Another choice is some small bakery shop. Unlike the big ones, because they are not as busy, they usually charge lower.
Bake It Yourself
Find someone in your family who has a knack for baking to make your cake for you. The cost will be the materials. Most often individuals that enjoy baking are quite creative. They could actually do a trial run for you prior to the wedding to be sure that it's exactly what you want.
